Trent Plaisted 2008 NBA Draft Prospect
Trent Plaisted has officially made himself eligible for the 2008 NBA Draft. Plaisted, who completed his junior season at BYU, hired an agent on Friday. It was somewhat of a surprising move because most draft experts expected Plaisted to return to BYU.
What has kept Plaisted from being a better NBA prospect is his questionable motor. According to scouts, he doesn’t always go all out and tends to drift mentally. And while he’s 6-foot-10 and 245 pounds, he has relatively short arms and that makes him more of a power forward than a center on the NBA level.
In his junior season at BYU, Plaisted posted impressive stats. He finished the season with averages of 15.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He also shot 54.2% from the field. However, he struggled from the free throw line (54.2%) and averaged an alarmingly high number of turnovers for a bigman (2.4).
Where will Plaisted be drafted in the 2008 NBA Draft? It’s difficult to say at the moment because so many scouts are surprised he’s officially entering the draft. It appears that Plaisted is most likely an early to middle second round pick. He’d have to have successful workouts to move up higher on the draft board. Since he surprised scouts by entering the draft, he very well could become a NBA draft second round sleeper.

I see Plaisted as being a Jason Smith type of player, but maybe too slow to make it

The best Plaisted can be a compliment to a team with a good center. He can hold his own by only if he has help and I am a big BYU fan.

first I saw plaisted play against Hansbrough, and plaisted sucked. He’s a MWC player he’ll never be anything more than a mop up/hack a Shaq NBA player. Infact, he’ll be replaced in 5 years or less by someone more athletic. This is just silly people would even draft this guy there are taller more athletic players who would benefit a team than this guy. Go back to school Plaisted ’cause you’ll need it, maybe be an assistant or something.
