Tony Parker Injury Update
The struggling San Antonio Spurs got bad news recently when head coach Gregg Popovich announced that starting point guard Tony Parker would be out indefinitely due to soreness in his foot. Parker, who has been dealing with the soreness for approximately six weeks, sat out against the Seattle Supersonics on Tuesday.
Parker returned to San Antonio and had an MRI on Wednesday and the results will be released on Thursday. The soonest possible return date is next Tuesday but everything points to Parker being out much longer. There’s a good chance that Parker will be out until after the All-Star break. Unless the MRI reveals something catastrophic, the longest Parker should be sidelined is until the first week of March.
The Spurs, who have lost 13 of their last 24 games including Tuesday’s game against the Sonics, will sign Damon Stoudamire to help man the point guard fort until Parker can return. Stoudamire, who was bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies, will share minutes with Jacque Vaughn while Parker is out. Stoudamire also has a chance to become the team’s new backup point guard once Parker returns.
Keep an eye out for the MRI results on Thursday and if you are in a deep league, consider picking up Stoudamire as a quick fix.
