Shawn Marion Fantasy Update
Shawn Marion has made it known that he wouldn’t be sad if he finds himself on the Los Angeles Lakers. While he hasn’t outright demanded for a trade, Marion seems disgruntled in Phoenix.
Arguably the Suns best defender and one of the best overall players in the league, Marion has been a fantasy legend over the last couple seasons. He is routinely taken at the very top of fantasy basketball drafts — and rightly so.
However, with these trade rumors bouncing around the league involving Marion, his fantasy basketball stock is slipping a bit. Currently, Marion is in a perfect situation in Phoenix. He plays with a great point guard in Steve Nash and is allowed to do a little of everything. Because he’s allowed to freelance, that makes his an outstanding fantasy player.
That could all change if he gets traded to the Lakers. While his minutes would still be there, his fantasy production would likely suffer. He’d play more small forward, which would hurt his rebounding and blocks. With Kobe Bryant on his team instead of Nash, he could very likely see his scoring slip in addition to his shooting percentages.
Although Marion would still be worthy of a first round pick no matter where he ends up, he should slip out of your top three if he lands with the Lakers. With the threat of going to the Lakers, that alone could knock him off his perch near the top.
