Josh Childress to Greece - Fantasy Impact
Josh Childress, an up-and-coming swingman for the Atlanta Hawks, has spurned his NBA team to sign with a team in Greece. In Greece, Childress will make more money than the Hawks were willing to give him.
While the European leagues have stolen lesser players from the NBA, the Greek team acquiring Childress could be a major turning point in the history of the NBA. Nowadays, European leagues have emerged as a place where players can go if they feel they aren’t making enough money in the NBA. If an exodus of players decides to go to Europe, the NBA may have to change its rules.
For the Atlanta Hawks, this cements their legacy as a joke of a team. The Hawks didn’t make a competitive offer and as a result lost one of their best players. Last year’s playoff appearance will likely go down as an anomaly.
If you have Childress in a dynasty basketball league, this is obviously devastating news. Childress will be in Greece for at least one year — if not longer. There is little hope of him returning before the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
