Fantasy Basketball: Super Sleepers

by Stephen Kersey on January 12th, 2008

CJ Miles, Utah Jazz
With Andrei Kirilenko battling a bad back, Miles has been getting some starts for the Jazz. While Miles is still a young player who needs to gain a few pounds of muscle, he has shown to be skilled with a good jumper. If Kirilenko misses extended time due to his injury, expect Miles to have a fair shot to become the full-time starter in Utah.

Renaldo Balkman, New York Knicks
Balkman is a very good athlete, a good defender and a player who can put up quality fantasy numbers. The problem is he’s stuck on the Knicks. However, the good news is that Balkman is one of the leading candidates to be traded. A lot of teams around the league could use his services. If Balkman gets traded, he could turn into a fantasy stud rather fast.

Johan Petro, Seattle Supersonics
Petro hasn’t gotten many minutes for the Sonics this year. Recently, he did have a very good game in which he 22 points, nine rebounds and three blocks off the bench. If he could eventually earn a spot in the starting lineup at center for Seattle, Petro is skilled enough to become a decent fantasy option.

Ian Mahinmi, San Antonio Spurs
If you are in a keeper or dynasty basketball league, Mahinmi is a guy to keep an eye on. Property of the San Antonio Spurs, Mahinmi is playing rather well in the NBA Development League. He’s currently averaging 19.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks, while shooting 64.1% from the field. He projects to be a future power forward in the NBA.
