Fantasy Basketball: Pacing Yourself
It’s no big secret that in fantasy basketball, all NBA teams aren’t created equal. For example, in the last couple seasons if a player has been signed by the Phoenix Suns, their fantasy stock has jumped tremendously. That’s because being on the Suns is great for a players’ fantasy production.
Why is that? First of all, the Suns have a great offense and Steve Nash gets everyone involved. But also, perhaps just as important, is the pace of the game. Teams that play a faster pace (like the Suns since Nash landed in Phoenix) get more shots which leads to more statistical production. The more a team shots, the more assists are available, the more rebounds are available and so on. Those same teams also play more defensive possessions than other slower paced teams, so that means more blocks and more steals available.
With that in mind, here is a list of the top ten fastest paced teams in the league right now:
1) Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets get up and down the court very quickly. It’s the reason why Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson can both be quality fantasy players while being on the same team.
2) Seattle Supersonics
With Kevin Durant never have met a shot he doesn’t like, the Sonics are a run and gun team this year. That’s why there are so many players on the team with fantasy relevance.
3) Phoenix Suns
It’s no surprise that the Suns are near the top. Phoenix should get even faster as the season progresses.
4) Golden State Warriors
The Warriors love to run under Don Nelson. With Stephen Jackson back, they are now running and winning.
5) Indiana Pacers
A lot of people think of the Pacers as a slow paced team. That isn’t the case this year as new coach Jim O’Brien loves the up and down game.
6) Utah Jazz
Don’t be confused by the old walk-it-up version of the Jazz. This year’s version of the Jazz can run with anyone in the league.
7) Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers have a lot of talent on their team, despite what Kobe Bryant says. Phil Jackson is utilizing that talent by getting the team to run more and more.
8) Memphis Grizzlies
With a head coach who came over from the Phoenix Suns in Marc Iavaroni, it’s no surprise that the Grizzlies like to get out and run.
9) Los Angeles Clippers
With Elton Brand out, the Clippers have reacted by running more. This pace could slow down when Brand returns.
10) Cleveland Cavaliers
Last year, the Cavs played at a slow pace. This year they are trying to improve their offense by running more.
